Hello, I am Dr. Michael Sullivan, facial plastic surgeon at the Sullivan Center for Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery in Columbus, Ohio.
One of the new buzzwords is volumization. What that refers to is the fact that as we age we lose fat in the face. Oftentimes we start to see some hollows around the eyes or in the cheek or along the jaw line, and traditionally we’ve used fat.
Oftentimes I will work with my partner Dr. Christine Sullivan. She does liposuction surgery, and I will take that fat that she’s liposuction, and I will transfer that to the face. We call that fat transfer. The reason why we might use fat is because it’s the patient’s own tissue, and many times those fat cells will survive in that new environment in the face and be permanent.
It’s approved by the FDA for volumization. We oftentimes, we’ll use that in the cheek area to enhance the cheekbone area, fill out the hollows underneath the cheek. It’s a very useful product, very safe, effective. It’s been used in Canada and Europe for many years with good success, and now it’s approved in the United States.
I have had a lot of experience with using Voluma recently, and I have had overwhelming, enthusiastic support and happiness from my patients who have received it thus far.
