We are all familiar with the “gummy bear “candies either by their infamous Google Reviews- which will surely keep you laughing,-or because you simply love those sweet chewy candies. The texture of a gummy bear candy is unique…it’s not hard but it doesn’t break apart easily either. The texture of a “gummy bear” breast implant is similar. We use three types of breast implants at Sullivan Centre. All breast implants contain a silicone outer shell. This shell can be either textured or smooth and during your consultation appointment Dr. Christine Sullivan will discuss the benefits and risks of both the implant texture and type.
Saline Breast Implants:
These are silicone shells that are filled with saline. The saline is the consistency of water and because it lacks weight, women who are thin will notice rippling of the implants through the skin. These breast implants are FDA approved and able to be used on women over the age of 18 for aesthetic purposes.
Traditional Silicone Breast Implants:
These implants are traditionally round in shape. The material inside the hard silicone shell tends to feel more like the natural breast compared to saline breast implants.
Gummy Bear or Memory Shape:
These implants are the newest on the market. They are shaped to mimic the adult female breast shape compared to the round shape. The “Memory Shape” or “Gummy Bear” breast implants are unique in that if there were to be a hole in the implant there would be no movement of material out of the implant unlike the traditional silicone breast implant.
Which Implant is the Right Choice for You?
This is a complex question; however, Dr. Christine Sullivan specializes in breast surgery. She has 32 years of experience using breast implants. Her expertise will be invaluable in navigating your breast augmentation journey.
